Flux and Fire, 2010
by Alex.
An interactive dance platform that shoots fire! What’s not to love.
Flux and Fire inherits some equipment and a basic layout from Interpretive Arson, a pyro group in California. Directed by Christine Irving, we fabricated the platform and electronics for Flux and Fire in a little under a month. The majority of the plumbing build happened over the course of a single weekend at ACME f/x in Etobicoke. The platform was a great success as an independent entry to Nuit Blanche 2010, where it took home the People’s Choice Award as well as the Blog.TO award for Worst of Zone C.
We thought it was pretty awesome, though. As a plumbing and operations tech on this, I handled a lot of pipe-wrenching and even more yelling during the main performance. You shoulda been there.
Flux and Fire has been invited to display at Winterlude 2011 in Ottawa.
